Block on alphanumeric senders on the proximus Belgium network

Further investigations into this issue have revealed that the problem with delivery to Belgium is due to the Proximus network filtering messages with an alphanumeric source/originator address. This filtering appears to have also affected numbers ported from Proximus to other Belgium networks.

Where possible messages to mobiles belonging to this network should use an international MSISDN (e.g. “+447...") as the source/originator address to aid delivery.

We are working closely with our interconnect partners regarding this issue, however reports indicate that these restrictions by the Proximus network in Belgium will be in place for the foreseeable future. Any change to this situation will immediately be advised to clients.

As previously advised the Proximus network in Belgium is blocking all incoming SMS with an alphanumeric originator/source address. We have been informed that the regulatory authorities in Belgium have required this blocking and that it is to extend to all networks in Belgium. It is therefore possible that any SMS messages with an alphanumeric originator/source address that you send to Belgium will experience delivery problems. Such messages may be blocked or the alphanumeric address may be modified.

Nokia OVI Transaction reporting problems since 10th May

I noticed that sales reports on the publish.ovi.com website had stopped since the 10th of May 2011. It almost appeared like I had made no sales since the 10th of May on OVI. So I contacted OVI support to ask, and got this reply:

Please note that there have been issues with the reporting page in Ovi Publish with transactions not being reported since May 10, 2011. Rest assured that the Ovi Development team is currently investigating the issue and working to deploy necessary system changes to repopulate the data. This issue should be fixed shortly and once it is fixed, the transactions will appear in reports for the days that they originated.

"Balance Limit" on Bulk SMS Customers

In an effort to increase security of our Bulk SMS system, we have now implemented a "Balance Limit" system. This means that every account will have a limit of how much they can have in credit at any given time.

A new account will only have £10 GBP balance limit, if you confirm your email address, we add another £10 to this limit. If you confirm your phone number, then we extend this by a further £50. If you need more than this, then you'll need to send us a scanned copy of your driving license or passport.

Why are we doing this?, it is to ensure that a minority of bad credit lines doesn't ruin the service for others.

Other measures we have taken are that we automatically detect suspicious texting patterns, and will suspend accounts immediately on detection of these patterns. You may notice this if your credit drops suddenly to zero, and a message appears in red saying "account suspended" when you log in.

Guernsey UK are currently experiencing a relapse of yesterday's issues with their SMS platform since 2011-03-13 02:00:00 GMT

All MO SMS messages sent to Guernsey UK Virtual Mobile Numbers (VMNs) are not being sent to the SMS gateway due to a fault at the network.

MOs sent to VMNs are currently being queued by Guernsey UK

MT messages and MOs sent to short codes are not affected.

The network is aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible. There is currently no estimated time to resolution, however we will issue an update as soon as more information becomes available.

Since 16:50 GMT this issue has reoccurred and we are not receiving MO SMS to Guernsey VMNs once again. The network is aware of the issue and has escalated internally.

We are now receiving MOs to Guernsey VMNs, but have not received official confirmation that the issue has been resolved. We continue to monitor the situation closely.

In order to Send SMS from Microsoft Acess (MSAccess), then you can do this either manually (1) or programmatically (2)

1. Export from Excel to CSV:

Assuming Access 2003, If you are doing it as a one-off then try this:

Open the table

File (Menu) --> Export

Save as Type 'Text Files'

Don't use the 'save formated' option

That will bring up the Export Text Wizard

Choose Delimited, click next

Choose 'Comma' delimiter and (none) as Text qualifier. (*See note)

Choose 'Include Field names on First Row' if you want column headings

Click next

Give it a name and click finish

That will give you a CSV file.

Free SMS for Nokia Symbian

This is a WRT (Web Runtime) widget for Nokia's Symbian phones. It was submitted today to Ovi, and this post will be updated with the link once the app is accepted.

It is simply the FreebieSMS affiliate form, trimmed down, to fit a smaller screen size. The first screen is where you enter your username and password, if you don't have one, then go to create a new bulk SMS account at FreebieSMS. Press Login to continue.

The next step is to import a CSV file. This can be created from any spread-sheet package such as excel or open office calc.

A CSV file is simply a text file such as;

After you press "Import" you move to the next screen.

You should also select the sender number here, so people can reply to your SMS messages.

Pressing next brings you onto the sender screen.

Pressing start will begin the process of sending SMS messages. Reports of what has been sent to whom, along with any errors will be reported in the box below, and a progress bar will report overall progress.

When I first saw Vodafone's advert for "Free bees", I thought that perhaps that it was the correct spelling of Freebie, and that the website should have been called "freebee sms"

But according to wikipedia, the definition of Freebie is correct; "Promotional merchandise, promotional items, promotional products, promotional gifts, or advertising gifts are articles of merchandise that are branded with a logo and used in marketing and communication programs. They are given away to promote a company, corporate image, or brand"

O2 CTA transactions failing

O2 UK are currently experiencing issues with their SMS platform since 2010-11-08 23:57:00 GMT

Premium MT and some MO SMS messages sent to short codes from O2 UK users are being affected. Bulk SMS messages and MOs sent to virtual mobile numbers are not affected.

CTA transactions (Call to Action) to O2 users are currently failing.

MOs are being queued by the networks; premium MTs are being queued on the Telecom SMS gateway for delivery once the issue has been resolved.

The network is aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible. There is currently no estimated time to resolution, however we will issue an update as soon as more information becomes available.

All MTSMS with Alphanumeric Sender IDs (TPOA) and sender ID with Turkey country prefix will fail to deliver. Kindly use International numeric sender ID when sending MT SMS toward Turkey Turkcell.
